The
Calling and Election Made Sure:
Whenever
an Ordinance or Ordination truly comes from God the Father, then some
part of that Ordinance or Ordination is meant to go onward with the
person after the person has died here in mortality. Some part of the
Ordinance or Ordination is meant to be Eternal and Everlasting.
Whenever we receive an Ordinance or Ordination, we receive a lasting
RIGHT unto the things that are directly applicable to the Ordinance
or Ordination. Therefore, Ordinances and Ordinations have to make
logical sense, so that some part of them can become an Eternal and
Everlasting part of who and what we really are.
So,
what is having one's Calling and Election made Sure really all about.
Well, when a person goes through this process, the Holy Spirit of
Promise seals a person's LDS Ordinances and LDS Ordinations so that
those Ordinances and Ordinations should surely become a permanent,
Eternal, and Everlasting part of who and what a person really is. A
person does NOT stop being a Latter-day Saint when they have their
Calling and Election made sure. Instead, a person has his LDS Church
Ordinances and his LDS Church Ordinations made Sure, thus hopefully
making them a permanent part of who and what the person really is.
MOST
of the people that I have encountered who have had their Calling and
Election made Sure and entered the Church of the Firstborn actually
start mocking the LDS General Authorities and start mocking and
ridiculing the Revelations that the LDS Apostles have received and do
now receive. Why would they do such a thing? Well, these people
believe that they can now sin all they want and mock the Prophets of
God all they want, and they will still be saved and exalted in the
Celestial Kingdom because their Calling and Election has been made
sure. They now believe that they actually belong to the Church of
the Firstborn instead of the Church of Jesus Christ, so they no
longer need to follow and obey the LDS Apostles, no longer need their
LDS Ordinances or Baptismal Covenants, and no longer need to keep the
commandments of God or honor their Temple Covenants or Priesthood
Oaths, because their Calling and Election has been made Sure. They
believe that they can party and sin all they want now, and God will
beat them with a few stripes, and they will enter the Celestial
Kingdom anyway.
The
thing they don't realize is that there is a caveat or a loophole in
place where all of this is concerned. God has left Himself an out.
If these people deny the Holy Ghost, in order words turn against the
Prophecies and Counsel and Revelations that the LDS Apostles receive
from God and the Holy Ghost, then their Calling and Election can be
revoked; and, these people will indeed go to hell even though their
Calling and Election has been made sure.
Cain
had his Calling and Election made Sure. He was receiving revelations
from God and receiving angels and all of that. There are indications
that Cain was even walking and talking with God. So, what did Cain
do? He denied the Holy Ghost. He turned against the Sure Witness
that he had received. He turned against the Prophets, Adam and Abel.
And Cain even murdered Abel. So, where is Cain now? He is in Outer
Darkness. Remember, every one of the Sons of Perdition at one time
in their life had had their Calling and Election made Sure and had
entered the Church of the Firstborn; every one of them! As D&C
84: 43 says, beware concerning yourself, especially if you have
already had your Calling and Election made Sure.
Once
you have had your Calling and Election made Sure and have entered
into the Church of the Firstborn, you are now a candidate to become a
Son of Perdition and end up in Outer Darkness as a result, if you
don't take care. If in your arrogance and pride, you turn against
the LDS Apostles and the Revelations from God that they receive from
the Holy Ghost, deny the Holy Ghost and the Holy Priesthood of God,
break your Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood, stop going to church
and stop paying tithing and get yourself excommunicated from the LDS
Church, then you are well on your way to Outer Darkness as a Son of
Perdition, especially if you have already had your Calling and
Election made Sure. Beware concerning yourself!
Having
one's Calling and Election made Sure is nothing guaranteed,
especially if a person uses it to get himself into Outer Darkness as
a Son of Perdition.
The
following scripture in the Book of Mormon is actually talking more
about the Church of the Firstborn than it is about the ordinary
Latter-day Saints.
2
Nephi 28: 7-9:
7
Yea, and there shall be many [Church of the Firstborn in the latter
days] which shall say: Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die;
and it shall be well with us.
8
And there shall also be many which shall say: Eat, drink, and be
merry; nevertheless, fear God – he will justify in committing a
little sin; yea, lie a little, take the advantage of one because of
his words, dig a pit for thy neighbor; there is no harm in this; and
do all these things, for tomorrow we die; and if it so be that we are
guilty, God will beat us with a few stripes, and at last we shall be
saved in the kingdom of God.
9
Yea, and there shall be many [of the Church of the Firstborn] which
shall teach after this manner, false and vain and foolish doctrines,
and shall be puffed up in their hearts, and shall seek deep to hide
their counsels from the Lord; and their works shall be in the dark.
Many
of the Latter-day Saints who have had their Calling and Election made
Sure and entered the Church of the Firstborn will actually fall under
the control or purview of this scripture; and, this scripture tells
us what will be the result of their rebellion against the duly
authorized and anointed Prophets of God and their LDS Church
Covenants.
Continuing
in 2 Nephi 28: 10-12:
10
And the blood of the saints shall cry from the ground against them
[the Sons of Perdition and the former members of the Church of the
Firstborn].
11
Yea, they have all gone out of the way; they have become corrupted.
12
Because of pride, and because of false teachers, and false doctrine,
their churches have become corrupted, and their churches are lifted
up; because of pride they are puffed up.
These
are members of the Church of the Firstborn that Nephi is talking
about here, people who have had their Calling and Election made Sure.
Where greater blessings have been given, greater responsibility is
required. The greater the blessing, the greater the temptation to
sin and rebel against The Holy Ghost as a result.
A
fast-track to one's Calling and Election made Sure is NOT a blessing,
especially if a person is not ready for it and is not ready for the
additional temptation that Satan will then pour onto the individual
trying to get the individual to turn against the LDS Church, the LDS
Apostles, the Revelations of God, Christ, and the Holy Ghost. Once a
person has had his Calling and Election made Sure, it is now Satan's
turn to try to turn that person into a Son of Perdition. Watch out!
2 Nephi 8 tells us that many of the Church of the Firstborn will
actually fail this test.
What
will be the leading cause of their failure that will actually turn
them into a Son of Perdition? Pride. They believe that they have
become a law unto themselves; and thus, they believe that they no
longer have to follow the Prophets of God, no longer have to keep the
Commandments of God, no longer have to keep their LDS Covenants
current by attending sacrament meeting and renewing their covenants
with God, no longer have to pay tithing, and no longer have to remain
faithful Latter-day Saints in order to be saved and exalted in the
Celestial Kingdom. They believe that they can do anything they want
now, and they will still be saved and exalted in the Kingdom of God,
the Celestial Kingdom, because they have had their Calling and
Election made Sure. In truth, though, they have now opened
themselves up to become Sons of Perdition instead.
I
have also been surprised to discover that I actually know more about
the Priesthood of God than what many of the members of the Church of
the Firstborn seem to know. I seem to know more about how the
Priesthood Works and how God intends for His Priesthood to be used
and by whom than many of the Church of the Firstborn which I have met
actually seem to know. It has surprised me how little some of them
know about the Gospel of Christ, the LDS Church, LDS Church Doctrine,
or the teachings of the LDS General Authorities. Yes, the Church of
the Firstborn often quote the stuff, but they don't seem to truly
understand it or what it really means. Here I am, a former apostate
and atheist, a repentant sinner, and a nobody; yet, for some strange
reason, I have delved into it deeper and seem to understand it better
than many of the Church of the Firstborn do. Maybe my pride isn't
getting in the way? Maybe I continue to attend the LDS Church, and
they don't? Maybe I continue to study it, and they don't. I don't
know. I can't quite put my finger on it.
The
Church of the Firstborn have partaken of the fruit of the Tree of
Life, but then some of them deliberately turn away from it and walk
away from it back into the mists of darkness and onward into the
Large and Spacious building, where they now start pointing the finger
and mocking the Apostles of God and the Revelations of God. Because
they now believe that they are immune to the Commandments of God and
the Teachings of the LDS Apostles, some of them don't even realize
and can't even see that Satan already has them in his trap. They are
blind to it all. Scary, huh?
In
contrast, I believe that I have met two or three Latter-day Saints
who have had their Calling and Election made sure; and, they have
actually chosen to remain true and faithful to the LDS Apostles, the
LDS Doctrine, their LDS Temple Covenants, and the LDS Church until
the very end of their lives. I believe that they are the real deal,
because all of the fruits and the signs are there. I believe that
they really will go to the Celestial Kingdom or have already gone to
Paradise on their way to the Celestial Kingdom. I believe these
people, male and female, are the real item.
They
have at times felt prompted to tell me about the miracles that have
happened in their lives, the revelations they have received, the
visions and spirits of the dead they have seen, the miracles they
have performed using the Priesthood of God, their visits to the
spirit world, and the missionary work they have done here on earth;
but, they each stop and refuse to say anything about their Calling
and Election or their experiences with the Second Comforter.
Instead, they go on to tell me to remain true and faithful to the LDS
Church, my Covenants with God, the LDS Church Doctrine, my Ordinances
in the LDS Church, my Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood, and the
Teachings of the LDS General Authorities. All of the evidence is
there that they have indeed made their Calling and Election Sure and
that they intend to remain true and faithful to it all (even the LDS
Church and the LDS Apostles) to the very end of their lives.
Their
knowledge of the Gospel of Christ, their service in the LDS Church,
and their experiences with the Priesthood of God are infinitely
greater than mine, and I can feel it. They radiate the Love of
Christ. They bear witness to me every chance they get and with every
word that they say that Christ lives and that the LDS Church is true.
They never brag about their experiences but instead take every
chance they get to use their experiences to teach me and help me to
see that Christ lives and that the LDS Church is true. They always
tell me to hearken unto the LDS Apostles and to live by every word
that proceeds from the mouth of God through His Chosen Servants the
LDS General Authorities.
Yes,
they are indeed members of the Church of the Firstborn, but they also
remain true and faithful Latter-day Saints in every way possible.
They are living missionaries for both Churches, the LDS Church and
the Church of the Firstborn, because they seem to see these Churches
as one and the same thing. They simply refuse to speak evil of the
Lord's Anointed, whether local or general. They are there every
Sunday in the LDS Church partaking of the sacrament and supporting
and sustaining their local leaders. They humbly magnify their (at
times) rather unimpressive callings in the LDS Church. By their
fruits and teachings ye shall know them; and, I'm coming to see and
know that they are the real deal and starting to hope that they will
never go the other way and become Sons of Perdition instead.
The
members of the Church of the Firstborn that I believe to be the real
deal and believe not to be headed towards becoming Sons of Perdition
are in fact constantly telling me, in person, to get my Temple
Recommend back and keep it. Like I wrote above, they are telling me
to remain true and faithful to my Temple Covenants. The others,
though they might indeed have had their Calling and Election made
Sure, are often telling me online that I will no longer need my LDS
Church Ordinances and will no longer need to be a member of the LDS
Church once I have become a member of the Church of the
Firstborn.
One of my most favorite accounts of someone receiving his Calling and Election made Sure is in Mosiah Chapter 26. Alma the Elder was just going around business as usual serving God and the Saints. He wasn't seeking for his C&E or even thinking about it when the Lord gave it to him. Instead, Alma was trying to find better ways of helping and serving and saving the Saints of God.
Mosiah 26:20
20 Thou art my servant [Alma]; and I covenant with thee that thou shalt have eternal life; and thou shalt serve me and go forth in my name, and shalt gather together my sheep.
It was a simple thing, a natural consequence of Alma's ongoing life of service in the Church. Notice that Alma did NOT then go out and stop being a member of the Church of Christ now that he had become a member of the Church of the Firstborn. Instead, Alma went on business as usual doing what he was already doing before.
